Ball Denial 101: Shakur Starling “Effort and Determination”

On 1/23/26 Central Dauphin defeated Cumberland Valley in a classic rival game that started with Central Dauphin behind 13-0, trailing the entire game, and ending with a legendary buzzer beating floater by Khalil Roberts. It was the seconds before that would set the state for the buzzer beater than many people may have missed. It was an incredible “ball denial” by junior guard Shakur Starling after slipping a screen and prevention the main ball handler from getting the ball and making a play that was possibly draw up in their timeout. This relentless effort, determination, court and body awareness are the little things that can build a winning program. Everyone can score, but defense like this is the glue that brings it all together. This was beautiful to watch.
