Be Thankful: Hoop Season is Here by: Nick Franklin

It’s that time of year again, packed gyms, back to back games, the infamous bearded cameraman with his cliché lines “ooh don’t do it to em”. That’s right hoop season is here and this season has a litany of reasons to be excited, some familiar people, some familiar places and tons of terrific young men and women around every corner ready to showcase their skills and hard work. We are in the premiere area for high school hoops and if you’re not as excited as us at Raw Sports you will be after reading this.

  • Play By Play Classics- Jeremy Treatman and his team have the some of the best players in the country in their events. Including top rated seniors Ziare Williams (Sierra Canyon, Undecided) Brandon Boston (Sierra Canyon, Kentucky) Lance Ware (Camden, Kentucky) Cliff Omoiruyi (Roselle Catholic, Undecided), Noah Collier (Westtown School, Pittsburgh), and underclassmen including top rated junior in the country Jonathon Kuminga (The Patrick School) and underclassmen Chris Livingston (Buchtel) and Bronny James (Sierra Canyon). You don’t wanna miss these events especially January 13th at West Chester University for the 1st annual Raw Sports Play By Play Classic. Check http://playbyplayclassics.com for dates and schedules for all the action.
  • “Jig don’t do it to em”- Jhamir “Jig” Brickus 5’10” senior point guard who’s heart is only matched by his masterful skills. The electric guard who helped lead the Red Raiders to the Piaa State Semifinals while making highlight play after highlight play.  His 52 point performance against Chester in the quarterfinals was amazing and we look forward to him cementing his legacy as one of the best guards in Pennsylvania Basketball history.
  • 2022 and Beyond- The young bucks don’t have next, they have now. The underclassmen coming up in the next few classes are ready to take center stage now. Starting with Chance Westry a silky smooth  combo guard who put not only Pennsylvania on notice but the entire country the now sophomore had a terrific summer coming off his great season and state tournament run where he dropped 40 in the State Championship game. He’s an elite scorer but my favorite part of his game is his passing ability. The class of 2022 also boosters a dynamic duo at Philadelphia power Roman Catholic Jalen Duren & Justice Williams, Jalen is a 6’9” super athletic big man who already has a great body frame and continues to polish his game to match his athleticism and body. While Justice Williams is a 6’3” wing who has improved every single time I’ve seen him play. He’s got a long wirey frame, good athleticism, and continues to work on perfecting his game. The underclassmen movement is in full affect, there’s tons of underclassmen who you’ll see this year on Raw Sports, from son of former lottery pick Dajuan Wagner, DJ Wagner (Camden, Freshman), Rahsool Diggins (Archbishop Wood, Junior), Lynn Greer III (Roman Catholic, Junior), Stevie Mitchell (Wilson, Junior), Derrick Lively II (Westtown, Junior) The future of basketball in our area is extremely bright so stay tuned!

Basketball season is officially back. We hope that you’re as excited as us as we will be coming to a gym near you to bring you all the action and coverage from all the events you need to follow. Stay Tuned because this is only the beginning!
