Hunter Dickinson, DeMatha Catholic take down number 1 recruit, Evan Mobley and Rancho Christian By: Tyler Harden

SPRINGFIELD—The game between DeMatha Catholic out of Hyattsville, Maryland and Rancho Christian out of Temecula, California featured a matchup between two of the best centers in the country. Rancho Christian’s Evan Mobley, the number 1 recruit in the country committed to USC, is known not only for his tremendous height at 7 feet tall, but also for his good handle on the ball and his versatility. But Mobley had a tough task on his hands today against DeMatha Catholic as they had a star big man of their own, 7 foot 2 Michigan Commit, Hunter Dickinson. Dickinson came out on top this time around, but it didn’t come easy.

A minute into the game, Dickinson went down and was holding his knee. He came off the court and eventually even off the bench to go to the locker room. Many thought the elite big man matchup that was ahead would not be taking place.

But by the start of the second quarter, Dickinson reentered the game and did not hesitate to make an impact, as he scored a team high of 13 points going into halftime in addition to a 10 point lead. However, Evan Mobley was still playing his game, as he led Rancho Christian with 11 points going into halftime.

After halftime, Dickinson went to work again, as he scored the opening 4 points of the half for the Stags. But Rancho Christian closed the gap between them and DeMatha, as Luke Turner hit a three with just under 30 seconds left in the third quarter to make it 45-44. Jordan Hawkins hit a mid range jumper to give a DeMatha a 47-44 lead at the end of the third.

The Stags eventually brought the lead back to 10, as Earl Timberlake scored 6 points in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter on a few great layups. Timberlake is committed to Miami.

As the game to a close, Hunter Dickinson had impressed a lot of people by the way he came into the game and dominated after he was unable to play due to injury in the first quarter. His 28 points and 6 rebounds led DeMatha to a 72-65 victory over Evan Mobley, who had 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks, and Rancho Christian.
